Meet Your Practitioner
Hi!
I'm Judy Olson
BSN, CECP, CBCP
Thanks for stopping by!
I welcome you from my home in the majestic mountains of Colorado.
FREEDOM & JOY … two primary everyday personal goals and what I hope to contribute in some way to others’ lives.
FREEDOM ~ In this “blink of an eye” life, I am deeply committed to facilitating a greater degree of freedom in every aspect of life ~ freedom from self-criticism, freedom from excessive worry, freedom from living by others’ prescriptions for our lives, freedom from feeling stuck … as examples.
JOY ~ Expressed in seemingly small or insignificant ways, as well as big and obvious ways, joy enhances life! Found and shared in many ways … joy is shared even simply in a smile with a passing stranger along the way.
A sense of freedom and sharing joy, in my experience, enables us to better love others and ourselves.
I share more at “My Story”, so I’ll simply note here that it is important to me to make the most of the gift of today ~ fully living my commitment to personal growth, helping others, and basically striving to enjoy as I go.
Obviously, I fall short with these aims. The list is long. 😉
However, I will continue striving towards my best, as I am a work in progress.
Hearing From Others Who Have Found This Helpful
I appreciate each of you taking the time and being willing to share openly from your own personal experiences on how this has enhanced your life in some way.
I am grateful for each one of you in my life.
Thank You!
Tidbits of Truth I've picked up along the way:
Be careful not to dehumanize those you disagree with. In our self-righteousness, we can become the very things we criticize in others ... and not even know it. ~ Be Kind
Faith is the ability to trust what we cannot see.
Faith is willing to take risks, embrace the unseen, step away from the safety of the shore. ~ Mary Southerland
A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. ~ John She'd
When you start to worry; pray instead.
Climbing the ladder in your work, society or relationship will never lead you to more satisfaction. There will always be another step to take, always another person to surpass. ~ First15
You and I have no right to judge. Consider this rule of thumb: Ask yourself if you'd want to be judged as you have judged others...?
Separate your identity from those who have hurt your heart.
Tell me how you spend your money and your time, and I'll tell you what matters most to you.
To experience the power of forgiveness, we have to quit fishing in the emotional waters of our past. ~ Mary Sutherland
To have a happy heart, practice service and generosity every day.
Don't allow your past to dictate possibilities of your future.
Every time you give - whether that's giving your time, your money, your effort, or your energy - you reveal what matters most to you.
Whatever we have is a gift, and by generously offering back a portion of all we've been given, we experience genuine joy, peace, and security ... which is of far greater value than anything the material world has to offer.
Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behavior does.
If you think you've got to somehow earn God's love, that's legalism - and it robs you of happiness. Legalism is trusting in what you can do for God instead of trusting in what Jesus has already done for you = freedom!
You earn a living by what you make, but you earn the respect and gratitude of others by what you give out of a loving heart.
We've been granted access to the fullness of life, love, and freedom.
It's easy to lose your joy over some small thing. In fact, it's usually the small irritations - more so than the big issues - that cause you to lose your happiness.
Here's a good question to ask when you're distracted by worthless things: How much will this matter in 100 years from now? You will find that the things you used to care about don't even compare to the joy that comes from having a relationship with Jesus.
The battle of stress in our life begins between our ears...in our thoughts. Think about the things that are good, worthy of praise, true, honorable, right, pure, beautiful and respected.
We have access far greater than a face-to-face encounter like Moses had. We can meet our heavenly Father in our day-to-day life just as Moses did.
When you remove from yourself the burden of appearances, you will experience a joy and peace that cannot be found in any other lifestyle than humility. Caring what people think is exhausting! ~ First15
Use discernment. Love big while holding your own personal healthy boundaries. And Don't Judge! Try compassion and communication with attempt to understand.
Stop having a measuring stick for other people. There is always at least one more fact, which we know nothing about, in every person's situation.
Whatever you ask for in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.
Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.
Reliable friends (people) who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat - refreshing! Integrity doesn't mean you're perfect. It means you're the real deal because your actions match your words.
No matter what comes your way, you can have peace. Regardless of your circumstances, there is a tranquility, serenity, and calmness that anchors your soul, so that you're not blown about by the winds of adversity and heartache.
We dictate the emotions we feel by what we choose to dwell on and believe. Our minds are a battlefield for our emotions, actions, and desires.
Five minutes of thanksgiving and praise has the power to change the direction of each day.
Take time in guided prayer to practice being grateful and enjoy the fruits of a renewed mind and heart filled with joy and truth.
Life together is a family, a fellowship, and a fight. When we learn to be considerate of other people's needs, fears, and doubts, we will be happier people.
It would help each of us if we do not concern ourselves so much with what we cannot control and cannot predict...not to worry about an unknown future. There's a really good reason why Jesus wants us to look at the birds of the air.
Life is not about things. One of the best ways to learn to love is through generosity - giving your time, money, effort, and energy.
Many people just need to know that someone cares about them and notices them at the heart level.
... "thoughts and prayers" ... It is not so true that "prayer changes things", as that prayer changes ME, and I have been given the power of choice and can be used to change things.
Write injuries in the sand, kindnesses in marble. ~ French Proverb
Everyone needs hope. Everyone needs love from people around them.
We are not to preach the doing of good things; good deeds are not to be preached, they are to be performed. ~ Oswald Chambers
Why, what good does it do and how does it help to ask God to guide your footsteps if you're not willing to do your part and move your feet?
Growing closer to God is much more than just head knowledge - it's a relationship!
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Yet prayer alone will not avail. Faith and works must always be associated. ~ John Harvey Kellogg
Prayer is not so much a question of altering things externally, but of working wonders on a man's disposition.
Jesus sacrificed being Spirit so that we can know God's love.
Prayer can simply be "breath prayers" throughout the day, talking with God, our Creator.
Prayer and action ... can never be seen as contradictory or mutually exclusive. Prayer without action grows into powerless pietism, and action without prayer degenerates into questionable manipulation. ~ Henri Nouwen
Consider that the church in particular is a means NOT ONLY for spreading the gospel BUT ALSO for helping the needy.
Don't waste you life being satisfied with less than what is available to you ... choose to pursue wholehearted relationship with Him.
You can choose to no longer give credence to what others think about you, and instead give credence to the Audience of One who is crazy about you and is cheering you on.
That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
You pray for the hungry. Then you feed them. This is how prayer works. ~ Pope Francis
There is Adventure, Excitement, Joy, Fulfillment, and Love for all who live by Faith.
Stop the "when and then" thinking! ("When ______, then I'd be happy.") Stop excusing and accusing. Stop fretting and fighting over the small stuff.
A woman bought a bag of cookies and sat down in the terminal at the airport. Soon a man came and sat down beside her. The cookies were in between the two of them, unopened. The man reached over, opened the cookies, took one out, and began to eat it. She thought, "What unmitigated gall & nerve that he would do that!" In response, she reached in, got one, ate it herself, & gave him a dirty look. (continued on next one...)
(...continued from last one) He just smiled then reached in and got another. They traded back and forth and with the last cookie, the man broke it in half, took one half, and left her the other half. The woman got on her plane thinking, "I've never seen a person as arrogant as that man was." As she opened her purse, there was her bag of cookies, unopened.
The word "working" in Greek is the word energos, from which we get our word, "energy".
"It is clear that it is by faith that the works of God are done. It is by faith that we find our purpose."
Waiting on our Creator isn't passive or idle. It takes a determined focus on His wisdom, goodness, and faithfulness no matter how challenging a situation may seem.
Faith is the avenue on which we experience the fullness of God's promises: INTIMACY with Him, PURPOSE in this life, and FREEDOM from all trespasses.
Regarding "hot topics" in our society today and maybe wondering what action to take? Consider that there is a marriage between faith and good works.
Every time you're generous with your time, attention, money, talents, etc., a change takes place in you. Every time you give, your heart moves another notch toward more loving.
In relation to "thoughts and prayers" ~ What is our faith if it does not produce action?
You are not alone.
Victor Franki was a Jewish psychiatrist who was taken to one of the death camps in Nazi Germany. All of his family and friends were gassed and murdered. He writes in his book about one day when he stood in front of the Gestapo stark naked. They'd taken away the prisoners' clothes and even Franki's wedding ring. (continued on next one...)
(... cont'd) As he stood there with nothing at all, he suddenly realized there was one thing the Nazis could not take away from him; his choice in how he would respond. You cannot totally control what other people do to you. You cannot control what other people around you say and do. But you can control how you respond. Better to choose to focus on our purpose instead of the problem.
We are given the option to have the Holy Spirit do work in our heart on a level that fills us with the ability and desire to live entirely in faith.
The Truth is, you don't need a big faith to accomplish huge goals. You just need a little faith - in a big God!
There is power in praying to our Source of joy, hope and power.
Do not try to make your experience a principle for others. Each of us were created as an original.
Pay less attention to what a person says. Just watch what they do. ~ Dale Carnagie
We may have difficulty seeing beyond our present suffering. How about checking in with the One who sees the bigger picture, when looking for direction.
Procrastination drains energy while action produces energy.
You are Unique! You are Known! You are Seen!
"...Let it be done just as you believed it would."
Let's be clear: God loves each of us, and the only thing preventing us from experiencing that love is our hesitation to accept it. The Truth is, none of us deserve the Lord's love, and yet He freely gives it anyway. The barrier(s) of doubt etc. will hold as long as the person believes divine love must be earned. It is offered and given freely by our Creator as a result of His Son's death on our behalf.
God's grace and love is my foundation and fuel.
We were created to give and receive love. Love is our highest calling. It's only in living for love that you will truly find peace and purpose. It's only in the giving and receiving of genuine love that you will feel whole and satisfied.
Faith ("thoughts and prayers") without works (action) is dead. Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.
In following Jesus as an example, we are not to spend all our time in the calm waters just inside the harbor, full of joy, but always tied to the dock. If we want to follow Jesus' example, we have to get out past the harbor into the great depths, and begin to know things for ourselves...begin to have spiritual discernment.
It is a dangerous thing to refuse to continue learning and knowing more ... in search of truth.
Forgiveness is instant; trust must be rebuilt over time.
Let love be genuine.
The greatest GIFT you can give somebody is your attention ... your attention is your time, and your time is your life and you will never get those moments back. And that's why it is so precious when you give it.
Don't live to make a good impression on others.
I'm supposed to have joy in my problems and face them head on, trusting I'm not alone in this? Yes.
"I'm not good enough." That's not true. I am deeply loved, fully forgiven, fully pleasing, and totally accepted by our Creator.
Forgiveness is instant; trust must be rebuilt over time.
Let go of the fears that keep you from growing.
While we cannot go back and change our past, we can change our response to our past. ~ Mary Southerland
Prayer and action ... can never be seen as contradictory or mutually exclusive. Prayer without action grows into powerless pietism, and action without prayer degenerates into questionable manipulation. ~ Henri Nouwen
When you hold on to hurt, you're really only hurting yourself.
Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. ~ Mahatma Gandi
It's in the giving and receiving of love that healing takes place. ~ First15
Our Creator is a God of restoration and healing ... the rubble of your past will never disqualify you from God's love.
You and I can have a real, eternal impact on the earth, as intended ... come as you are.
Change can be accomplished most of all through the power of prayer, because with God all things are possible. ~ Wilferd Peterson
"I'm a failure." That's not true. I sometimes fail, but that's not who or what I am.
The power of prayer cannot be explained, but the power of prayer can be experienced.
You can pray while you work. Work doesn't stop prayer and prayer doesn't stop work. ~ Mother Teresa
Rubble (emotional baggage, etc) in our past is not meant to stay there. The first step to dealing with it is to be aware of it. It then requires choosing to take action. Talking to God is a great way to start. Nehemiah is an example of this.
There is no such thing as a non-valuable person in God's eyes. He loves every single one of us equally and is personally involved. The proof is in the fact that out of the multiple trillions of people who are (and have been) on this earth, no two of us have the same fingerprint. You are one of a kind and well-loved by the Creator who brought you into being.
The meaning I picked, the one that changed my life: Overcome fear, behold wonder. ~ Richard Bach
Be Kind. Loan someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness. ~ Andy Stanley
Do it now. Sometimes later becomes never.
A soft answer does not mean weakness. ~ Kathi Lipp
"I can't do anything right." That's not true.
"I'm unloved." That's not true. There is One who loves me always, no matter what!
"Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer IS the greater work."
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Never underestimate what God can do when we obey Him in faith doing the work in His strength.
Sincerity means that the appearance and the reality are exactly the same. ~ Oswald Chambers
The value is found "in Jesus' name".
Faith is not a feeling.
I choose to pray.
It's about relationship ... the greatest relationship being with Jesus.
God is the greatest Counselor, Therapist and Healer and I'm just a worker here, continuing to learn as I go, and grow.
Let us not go back in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness. ~ James Thurber
It's Faith working through Love.
Well, well, well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions. ~ Rose Pepper
I discovered God, our Creator, is absolutely real!
I am not some fanatic, Bible-thumping, religious Christian! I am a simple everyday farm-girl-at-heart who has been in the deep valley more than once, where God met me there time and time again, growing in my relationship with Jesus.
Over time I have discovered the Truth ... that God, our Creator is Faithful, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Ineffable, Inscrutable, Transcendent, Immutable, 100% Capable and HIs timing is impeccable!
Consider that in most anything in life, insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities is more an action of adolescence than freedom.
Prayer is talking with God ... right? So basically what I'm doing in my sessions is having an ongoing prayer talking with God throughout the entire session.
Fear builds its phantoms which are more fearsome than reality itself. ~ Jawaharlal Nehru - India's 1st Prime Minister
If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at Christ, you'll be at rest. ~ Corrie Ten Boom - Holocaust survivor
It's like peeling an onion ... you never know how many layers there are going to be, and the top one needs to be taken off before you can get to the next one and the next one and the next one ... so I seek and depend on God's timing and direction in the process.
Praying is not exclusive to any one person(s). God wants relationship thru prayer/communication with each one of us.
Even the smallest stone of judgement is too heavy for us to carry. ~ Sharon Jaynes
Let's stop comparing ourselves with someone else, and each run our own personal race marked out for each of us.
We are only what we are in the dark (imaginations of our minds; thoughts of our heart; habits of our bodies); all the rest is reputation. ~ Oswald Chambers
It's in sharing the joy!
Having been a skeptic myself, I was forced to have to ask myself a couple of questions ... What makes you think God is not capable of working in this way? Have you put God in a box by deciding exactly what it is that God can and cannot do?
Vision based on fear rather than faith is going to limit you, setting yourself up for self-defeat.
Walls turned sideways are bridges. ~ Angela Davis
"I'm a loser." That's not true. I'm more than a conqueror through the One who gives me strength.
Are you more of an encourager who cheers others on in the great race of life, or a discourager who trips them up?
"I'm worthless." That's not true. My worth is not based on what others think of me, but on what my Audience of One thinks of me - and He thinks I'm priceless.
True joy comes from serving moreso than status, salary or sex. The issue isn't whether there's something wrong with those things; they just don't deserve first place if wanting to experience true joy and a far greater purpose in each of our lives.
Sometimes the sea is calm, the wind blows softly and the sun is shining and we are sailing along just fine. But sometimes the wind rises, the sky darkens, and we find ourselves amid a terrible storm. And that's the way life is ... sometimes things are good and sometimes things are bad, but there is One who is in control of it all.
You will never hear God say, "Oops, I didn't see that coming." 😉 ~ Sharon Jaynes
I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business. ~ Michael J. Fox
Freedom is one of the most prized possessions in all humanity. And it was pursuit of freedom that brought about the very breath of this nation of ours.
It's about consistency in relationship, not religion nor strict, unyielding doctrines.
It is a great thing to tell yourself the truth. Ask yourself: Am I getting nobler, more helpful, more humble, as I get older, or am I getting more self-assertive, more deliberately determined to have my own way?
Life is about love and significance comes from service.
You were made for something greater than yourself. Significance doesn't come from status, salary, or sex. It comes from service.
We are all captives to one thing or another ... even good things like hard work and relationships can keep us in bondage if we're not careful.
If you're going to be diehard loyal, be careful who you're loyal to.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
In the world wrought with depression and hurt, we have a Father who is the Source of all comfort.
A key to contentment: stop comparing yourself to others.
A key to contentment: enjoy what you have.
A key to contentment: remember life is not about things.
A key to contentment: focus on what will last forever.
Many of us attempt to find worth and identity in what we do - not in Whose we are.
We can change our lives by changing how we think.
The law of reproduction says that you reap what you sow. But the principle of multiplication says that you also always reap more than you sow.
You reap what you sow.
All of us are broken. All of us are hurting. All of us need the love of our heavenly Father.
Choose to forget about last year's crop failure. Instead, start focusing on the long-term harvest in your life.
Instead of moaning, get moving!
Break up with fake.
Although grace is free, it didn't come cheap.
Encountering God's presence starts with having faith in what scripture says. Feeling Gods nearness starts with trusting that He's right next to you and wants you to know Him. God doesn't force Himself on us. He doesn't occupy space in our hearts that we choose to fill with other things.
The essential thing is my personal relationship with Jesus.
The remarkable thing about fear in God is that when you fear God you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God you fear everything else.
Shame is a universal destroyer of destinies, dignity & callings. Whispering, "You're the only one", "No one is as bad as you", "If they only knew ...". Shame keeps its victims silent. Jesus removes the reason for shame: it's up to us to walk away from the season of shame. ~ Sharon Jaynes
The Sovereign of the universe has all power to meet every single need you have, to answer your prayers, and to give you direction. He's willing to speak, it's a matter of if you're willing to listen.
What you've known of life this far is not all there is.
The wisdom of the world is not the wisdom of God.
Like a shield, God can only protect us if we're willing to stay behind Him ... waiting on Him and allowing Him to go before us as our Guide. You will only be able to wait on God to the level that you trust Him. To be able to actively trust God, you have to believe He truly has your best interests in mind. He can only help us if we are willing to be helped.
Trust isn't simply a matter of the head, but of the heart.
Choosing to see yourself as you perceive those around you do, will only set you up for heartache.
There is nothing miraculous or mysterious about the things we can explain.
A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt
What does the farmer do when he has a barren field that's producing no income? He goes out and starts planting some seeds - because nothing is going to happen until he plants the seed. He can pray all he wants, but it's not going to produce a crop. Planting is an act of faith.
The true test of spirituality occurs when we come up against injustice, degradation, ingratitude, and turmoil. All of which have a tendency to make us spiritually lazy.
Feelings don't always line up with facts. It's up to you to decide to walk away from that shame place, regardless of what your feelings are telling you at the time. ~ Sharon Jaynes
If/When we seek only our enjoyment of Jesus Christ, that is not a true realization of Him.
The secret to contentment is finding your security and your satisfaction not in what you have but in Whose you are.
Seeing is never believing: we interpret what we see in the light of what we believe. Therefore the nature of faith is that it must be tried. ~ Oswald Chambers
Whoever said "normal" was godly?
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Words are powerful ... for the good and for the bad ... creating life or destruction ... destroying or building up. We are wise to choose our words carefully.
Take care to not be so busy getting more, that you don't enjoy what you've got. Avoid getting into the "when and then" thinking ... WHEN this happens, THEN I'll be happy.
Happiness is a choice! It has nothing to do with your circumstances and everything to do with your attitude.
Your choices are a deliberate determination ... not something into which you are automatically drift.
Our resources reach only as far as we can see; God's resources see what we can't see and prepare us for what we don't know is coming. Our resources increase and decrease based on what we face; God is all powerful and remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Live your life in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip. ~ Will Rogers
When you worry, you're trying to play God by assuming responsibility for something that God has said He will take care of.
You are loved by One who wants a personal relationship with you.
The first step to becoming a contented person is to stop comparing yourself to others; stop comparing your life to other's lives. Comparison tends to be our human favorite pastime. Desires are not wrong ... but when comparing, can lead to all kinds of problems.
